Ready for BBQ season

With nice weather and summer holidays finally approaching, it’s no secret that many people will be spending their weekends and days off outside. In addition to opening up the pool and walking on the beach, BBQ’s are also going to become one of the more popular activities at homes and even businesses across the way. But, a nice grill session can turn into a devastating, even deadly fire in a matter of minutes -- which is why safety should also be a top priority during this time! To ensure you’re well prepared for a potential BBQ disaster this season, we’ve compiled a few tips and guidelines to follow.
Know Your Grill’s Safety Zone
Firing up the grill, for many, is a great experience that allows you to bring out your inner chef, while also catering to guests of your party. But far more goes into the process of cooking than just flipping a few burgers. For starters, make sure your grill isn’t positioned anywhere near your home, on a dead patch of grass, or under low-hanging trees. Regardless of what kind of grill you’re using, one spark or flame too close to another object is all it takes to start a fire. For good measure, keep your grills on cement fixtures or away from anything flammable
Keep Fire Extinguishers Nearby
Whether or not this is the first time you’re using the grill this season, make sure it’s still in operable shape for a cookout. Thoroughly clean the grates and inspect the gas line for leaks. Should a fire start from faulty lines or too much grease, you’ll need something to help extinguish the issue. A small fire extinguisher is always great to keep nearby, and can suppress an issue before it becomes unmanageable and damaging -- just make sure your fire extinguisher is appropriately rated for this particular situation.
Of course, there are always circumstances that you’re either not prepared for, or not fit to handle on your own. If you do happen to experience an issue in which your home is sustaining fire damage, immediately call your local fire department to have them take control ASAP.
